This course equips BSc Clinical Medicine students with essential skills to assess, diagnose, manage, and appropriately refer paediatric patients. It focuses on holistic, ethical, and family-centred care, covering normal child growth and development, disease prevention, emergency care, neonatology, and common childhood medical conditions across all major body systems.

Course Requirements

To enroll in this course, learners must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrollment in a recognised university or college offering a Diploma in Clinical Medical Sciences or a related clinical programme
  • Foundational knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Access to a stable internet connection
  • A computer, tablet, or smartphone capable of accessing the eLearning platform and streaming course content
  • A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
  • Basic digital skills to navigate the eLearning platform, complete assessments, and download learning materials

Course Description

This course provides comprehensive training in the care of infants, children, and adolescents, equipping students with the clinical knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes required to manage common and complex paediatric conditions. Emphasis is placed on a patient-centred, family-oriented approach that integrates accurate history taking, thorough physical examination, appropriate investigation, clear communication, and ethical practice.


Students will develop core competencies in assessing normal growth and development, preventing childhood illnesses, recognising emergencies, and managing neonatal, medical, surgical, and psychosocial conditions affecting children. The course spans preventive child health, emergency paediatrics, neonatology, infectious and communicable diseases, and major system-based paediatric disorders, ensuring graduates are well prepared for frontline clinical practice and timely referral when higher-level care is required.


By the end of the course, learners will be able to competently evaluate paediatric patients, interpret clinical and diagnostic findings, counsel patients and families, maintain confidentiality and dignity, and deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care across a wide range of paediatric and child health conditions.
