Course Description
This course provides comprehensive training in the care of infants, children, and adolescents, equipping students with the clinical knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes required to manage common and complex paediatric conditions. Emphasis is placed on a patient-centred, family-oriented approach that integrates accurate history taking, thorough physical examination, appropriate investigation, clear communication, and ethical practice.
Students will develop core competencies in assessing normal growth and development, preventing childhood illnesses, recognising emergencies, and managing neonatal, medical, surgical, and psychosocial conditions affecting children. The course spans preventive child health, emergency paediatrics, neonatology, infectious and communicable diseases, and major system-based paediatric disorders, ensuring graduates are well prepared for frontline clinical practice and timely referral when higher-level care is required.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to competently evaluate paediatric patients, interpret clinical and diagnostic findings, counsel patients and families, maintain confidentiality and dignity, and deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care across a wide range of paediatric and child health conditions.
